MAITA ISMAYA THE COMPARISON OF USING STUDENT TEAMS ACHIEVEMENT DIVISION (STAD) AND JIGSAW METHOD TO ACHIEVE READING COMPREHENSION AT THE STUDENT OF SMA MUHAMMADIYAH 2 METRO IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2013/2014

Reading comprehension is a complex process which involves the coordination of a multitude of skill and for finding much information. One of the problem facing in our education is learning process. Many methods presented as a solution in this research to develop reading comprehension are STAD and Jigsaw method. The problem formulations of this research are; (1) Are there any differences of comprehension the reading text using STAD toward Jigsaw method?, (2) Which one is more effective between using STAD and Jigsaw method toward achieve reading comprehension?. The objective of this research are: (1) To know whether there are some differences of comprehension the reading text using STAD and Jigsaw method, (2) To know which one is more effective between using STAD and Jigsaw method to achieve students’ reading comprehension. In this research, the researcher uses quantitative research. The research design of this research is true experimental design. The research is conducted at the tenth grade students of SMA Muhammadiyah 2 Metro in academic year 2013/2014. The researcher uses cluster random sampling in taking the sample, the sample is X1 as experiment class and X2 class as control class. Each sample is 20 students, son the total 40 students. After analyzing the data by using the formula of ttest the researcher get the result is 3,48 and ttable is 2,04 (on criterion 1) and 2,75 (on criterion 2). It means that thit > ttable. The criterion of ttest is Ha accepted if thit > ttable. It means that there is a significant difference between STAD and Jigsaw method toward student’s reading comprehension for the tenth grade students of SMA Muhammadiyah 2 Metro. By comparising the result of student’s reading comprehension by using STAD and Jigsaw method in this research. The researcher finds that students reading comprehension who are treated by Jigsaw more showing the significant result than STAD method. It means that the teacher should use Jigsaw method in the teaching learning process in developing students reading comprehension."
